The U.S. is Violating Human Rights?

This is what the United Nations is looking into. They have sent a representative to tour several U.S. cities to see if there is a lack of affordable housing. Of course, one of the cities this investigator will visit is The Big Apple. Really? Anyone with common sense can tell this woman that the prices in New York are outrageous. It's all about the location.

Personally, I believe that if you are homeless in New York because you cannot afford to live there, perhaps you should hitch it out of there. I can't afford to live off campus, so I don't. C'mon folks, use your noggin!

I know that there are others out there, others who cannot afford housing because they have no job. Well, no one is above asking the question, "would you like fries with that?" I've done it, and if you work full time, you can make a small, okay, absolutely pitiful, amount of money. But something is better than nothing. No one should ever look down on you because you did what you had to.

With massive amounts of forclosures going on across the States, I can see the United Nations point, sort of. But did we not discover that many of these forclosures were people buying what they could not afford, or worse, not reading their contracts? I say people should start taking responsibility for their actions.

This is not to say that I am not aware of the massive amounts of job loss. After all, I lived in the heart of the rust belt for the past 18 years of my life. I've seen job loss happen countless times. If this is the reason why someone you know lost their home, do not yell at me. I'm not counting those poor folks in my rant. Just the lazy and irresponsible.

But I digress. So, what are your thoughts? Do you believe the United States is violating human rights?

  1. Your shameless plug worked Kait :-)

For the sake of argument, I'll play devil's advocate to some of your ideas. First of all, many people who live vagrant lives in cities are legitimately incapable of caring for themselves. Many have mental diseases, from mental retardation to severe schizophrenia. Many have serious drug problems and, while they may have began their habit of their own free will, they now cannot function in the real world. This is not true in all cases; simply, not all people are capable of using or following through with the logic you demand of them. What of them?

As to the UN investigating the US for human rights violations, I am aghast. There are countries out there with huge rich/poor divides, countries with rampant violence, and countries that treat women like second-class citizens. And we're being investigated for human rights violations? We should pull our funding from the UN: we pay for most of it to have other countries deride us and investigate us, now.

Thanks for the read, I hope to be similarly engaged in the future. Happy Halloween!

  2. ok, now that i've stopped lol as much. the UN is coming to america to look into human rights violations? lol, c'mon kait, the UN is what 180+ countries, have they seen their own sewers? I mean homelands. They live in filth in many cases without power, food , medical, schools etc. And they have the balls to come here and say america is rioting human right!
My gods they opening stone women to death and hang them if they get raped.
    That damn Bush :D
Steven, you said we pay most of the un funding, isnt the UN located in NY and we pay all security utilities and upkeep? make is a community help spot for the homeless.

Many are mentally defected and cant function in the real world, me included.

The housing foreclosures and banking collapse is because people bought home they cant afford and max out credit cards, but the govt bailed them out and made them lower standards with racist loan rules, ie "equal op lender" you cant verify income and cant get denighed due to race. Then how to get a loan?
Again in MA one lady , no english, worked as a hairdresser making 29k per year got a home , i think 790k. ofc couldnt make payment, forclose? NO! rasist! its because she's spanish! That was all over the news, The rasist banks, not the fact, so much.

wow sorry, Yes the US is violating the right of the natureally born US humans.
